Language Myths and Their Intentions
Jazykové mýty a ich poslanie
In addition to myths that narrate about the creation of the world and appeared in the bygone past, myths of a different kind accompany even the peoples of modern era. These myths as a rule reinforce the self-consciousness of a people, defend it against the surrounding ethnic communities and sometimes ridicule them. Such myths concerned with linguistic issues are known to occur in Japan, Turkey, Hungary and also in many other countries, not excluding the Slavic world. In the past they might have degenerated into a quasi-political ideology.
