Abstract

The article is overviewing the development of Slovak-Ukrainian relations in boundary line regions in connection with the historical changes of statute of common boundary line and its impact upon the ethnic minorities on the both sides. The emphasis is placed upon the fact, that the Slovaks in Ukraine and Ruthanians/Ukrainians in Slovakia are not perceived as the so called „problem„ minorities and they are not a risc factor to territorial integrity of both countries. The attention is devoted to the newest development of Slovak-Ukrainian relations in connection with the implementation of visa obligation from June 2000. The authors are trying to estimate an impact of this visa obligation and are pointing to steps which shoul be, in their opinion, done to alleviate its negative consequences.
